Improve your health, save money

I recently received an email from NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) announcing a collaboration with TrueMed, a company that provides help to use HSA/FSA funds to help offset the cost of personal training.

This is huge.

You have long been able to use HSA/FSA funds for medical, but things like Personal Training were not always eligible (and in some cases may still not be so be sure to check with your provider).

To see if you initially qualify, you take a short survey to see if you qualify and if you do, TrueMed bills you a once yearly fee of $30.00 to get an LMN (Letter of Medical Necessity). Once you have obtain this LMN, then you can purchase your training packages using your HSA/FSA tax-free funds. You still pay for the training as normal, but with your receipt and LMN you submit this to insurance for anywhere between 30-40% reimbursement.

In some cases you maybe be able to use your HSA card to directly purchase the training session, but you need to check with your provider before doing this.

Why is this such a big deal? Well for two reasons.

First, it may save YOU some money on training which hopefully entices more people to start training or continue with training longer.

Second, as personal trainers we have always been considered a part of the healthcare continuum, however when it came to insurance paying out for some of the costs, it wasn’t there. This prevents a lot of people from signing up to become healthier.

Personal training is one of the best things you can do to be proactive with your health and longevity.
